LATITUDE MARGARITAVILLE Home Sweet Home
TO MILITARY VETERANS
America250 celebrates a major milestone for the United States of America— the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is a time for all Americans to reflect upon our nation’ s past and to honor the contributions of our forefathers and those who carry the torch of freedom forward today.
Our military veterans bring special meaning to the America250 celebration. Latitude Margaritaville is home sweet home to more than 500 military veterans who have selflessly served their country and have put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms we share today.
Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head resident and U. S. Army veteran Greg Moldovan heads up the community’ s group of resident veterans. The group guides fellow veterans in accessing their military benefits, does community service events and helps Latitude Margaritaville plan military recognition days.“ Our focus is on patriotism and helping veterans. We have about 250 members currently from all branches of the military,” says Greg.
“ In this area, within a 90 mile radius, I have heard estimates that there are about 120,000 veterans that include those on active duty and retired.
There also are numerous military posts,” he adds. Some of those posts are Parris Island with Marine basic training; Fort Stewart, home of the U. S. Army 3rd Infantry Division; Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah; Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort( Merritt Field), Naval Hospital Beaufort and others.
The Latitude Margaritaville Watersound veterans’ group, was formed more than two years ago by residents Chip and Priscilla Green. The group assists with community programs and helps veterans with healthcare needs, VA appointments and VA benefits information. It also provides other services to support veterans as well as Gold Star wives and families that have lost a loved one serving in the military. The Panama City area, including Bay and Walton counties, includes five military bases within 200 miles, covering all branches of the service.
