In March 2017 , a lively groundbreaking ceremony was held by Minto and Margaritaville and attended by community leaders and media . The celebratory event was in true Margaritaville style , complete with a steel drum band , tropical treats and guests wearing colorful leis .

In November 2017 , the community ’ s sales launch made headlines with over 300 aspiring homebuyers lining up to be among the first to buy a home at Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach . They started arriving the day before and camped out all night under a giant white tent . Many bonded with neighbors-tobe — even picking lot locations near some of those next to them in line . They danced to a band playing Jimmy Buffett tunes , watched the movie Jurassic World with its cameo appearance by Jimmy Buffett carrying a margarita and munched on complimentary pizza .

In February 2018 the grand opening event for the community ’ s nine model homes drew over 2,600 prospective home buyers from throughout the U . S ., and the action has continued on fast forward since .
