KAT AND COLEMAN EASTERLY
For 35 years, Kat and Coleman Easterly kept a bag of the red
Virginia clay from the yard of the first home they built together as
newlyweds in 1985 in Crozet, Virginia. As they moved from home to
home over the years, that soil remained in its keepsake box, waiting
to be scattered outside the Easterlys’ one day forever home.
“We actually were planning to rent a place in New Smyrna Beach,”
Kat said. “On our way there, we had to pull off of the interstate for
a rest stop, and saw Latitude Margaritaville [Daytona Beach]. We
stopped at the sales center to take a break and, the next thing we
knew, we were on a golf cart with our 13-year-old Westie, Buster,
touring the community. They told us about the Change in Latitude
program, and we agreed to do it.”
